tyre sizing question
Hi, My brother has a Specialized Globe Sport
http://www.bikebike.co.uk/products.php? ... b9s18p1383
He wants to get thinner, more road-orientated tyres for it. They are listed as 700x35 at the moment but there is little info on the rims. What is the minimum width these rims could take? Could he get away with 23's or 25's? I haven't seen the bike as he lives at the other end of the country from me.

There are accepted formulae equating rim width to tyre size - try googling and/or Sheldon Brown's guidance, but IMO (Opinion stressed!) I don't think any problem eith fitting x25s. Rim manufacturers used to list quite narrow tyre specs UNTIL mtb 26"ers came along and they realised that folk wanted to fit widely varying tyre sizes, without buying 2 sets of wheels. And so same rims now "OK" for 26x1 up to 26x2.3! I know mtb pressures lower but I suspect that the same reasoning holds.
Or if you know rim width/maker there may be a spec sheet somewhere on-line.d.j.
