See you there Dai - going to rest the demons at that manhole cover near Glynneath. May have to stop and light some candles in memory of my once perfectly formed collarbone that now looks like an old Mk I Escort radio aerial.

Bronzie - were you the chap who needed the ambulance shortly after the feed stop at aound 80 miles? I'm not sure if I was briefly in your group last year going over the Beacons before going out the back after the Storey Arms. There were two riders from Luton in the group. Going to enter tomorrow so will look out for a Luton jersey.

Yeah that was me - the rider in front of me fell off after clipping a sunken manhole cover and I went straight over him - carted off to Port Talbot A+E - not how I want to finish this year's ride

See you there - 7 in our club down to ride now so you'll probably bump into one of us - not literally I hope (arf arf).

Bronzie - hope you have better luck this year. I'll look out for you I'll be wearing a Kingston Wheelers jersey. There'll be a few of us there too. I'll post my number when I receive it.

Defo - in my group of 15 only 4 were taking turns - limpets can stay at home for 2008 (and that inlcudes my World Champion Wheel Sucking mate Andy)

How hard is this ride? I've been looking at doing some more orgnised riding rather than my current solo efforts, but I don't know where to start.

Would the big route be too much to start with? I can cycle a century solo without any problems, but have never tried it with the amount of hills in a sportive.

Should I try some easier rides to get a feel for riding these events, or should I just go for it?

I'd say it's one of the easier UK events - it's long, but the climbs are not too taxing and not as frequent as some others. Most climbs are steady power climbs on good wide roads with decent tarmac - none of that super-grippy stuff they put in the lanes :x

I'd have thought if you can do solo 100's no problem you'll be OK with the 180km route. The only thing to remember* is to ride at a pace you are comfortable with rather than get carried away with the through and off early on and have nothing in the legs for later.

    * - all the usual rules about eating/drinking and gearing still apply

Hmmm I reckon a lot might disagree and say its one of the hardest because the climbs are so long and there are so many riders for you to chase / hang onto...! Agreed that the gradients are not particularly taxing, and riding them solo is pretty straightforward, but that old cliche about a number on your back.... :D

one of your mates indicated there was enough help, Looked Nasty!! :(

By the way that was me who shouted out on Saturday at Meppershall.
