    To be clear, what I’ve said is that there are many different ways to change the ride “feel” over and above double butting. Therefore in order to have a discussion over the relative benefits of DB over PG we must first remove all the other influences which we have been chatting about. So comparing one manufactures DB frame against another’s straight gauge may not be a fair test.

    We are exploring two different “heat treatments” which do change the physical properties of the material as our lab data clarifies. However, we don’t know if this will have any beneficial benefit in terms of ride quality, hence us making identical frames in the two states and studying them head to head using perception studies amongst other things.

    The reality is it is very difficult to separate each frame design / manufacturing “feature” as they are often all interconnected in some way. But it is interesting to use different strategies to attempt to improve product ride quality.
