worried about buckling wheels trek 1.7

hi all,
put my mind at rest if you can.
I've just bought a trek 1.7 road bike and I am new to cycling so when I go over bumps, ruts speed bumps and bad tarmac repairs generally I'm paranoid that these are damaging my wheels. Is there any possibility that bad roads like these will buckle my wheels or are they tough enough to withstand this?
