Currently run Conti 4000s. Are these ok for etape or are there better clinchers out there? I think the pros use tubs in the TdF
Thanks for any advice.

  • i'm using conti GP400S's which unless it pees down will be as good as any IMHO. just make sure neither tyre is particularly worn to help avoid the dreaded you know what

Yes 'cos they have about 5 team mechanics looking after them !

And you're not a Pro rider (well not yet anyway)

And do you think using tubs as opposed to Pro race 3's will make that much difference to you(or I) toiing up a climb at 12 kph ? No niether did I !

Get some Pro Race 3's (if you're over 12 stone 25mm ones - if they're out)

For the Etape I'll be changing my (becoming worn) Ultremo's to either Conti 4000s or Pro Race 3's (shaved legs site has some keen prices).

    Any views on the choice?

PS I think clinchers will be adequate for me!

I've just spent a week in Majorca on the PR3s having used the ltd edition PR2s last year. The 3 is easily better on the corners and if you rode the 2's you know how good they were plus the ride comfort is still there. They would my first choice for the etape

If you're over 12 stone or going to be riding in excess of 5 hours then I'd go for the PR3 's in 25mm - more comfort and will roll just as well as 23mm ones

    Interesting you found that ...

I actually prefer the PR2. PR3 is narrower ... which means less comfort and harder to get on rim. Possibly marginally faster, but we're talking 0.1% or less effect on speed or something miniscule ...
  • Any one know of any stockists of above tyres please ? Can,t seem to find any available before end of season. Looking for black/grey or black/blue. Hope someone can help. Cheers Steve
