Campag wheels / Shimano hubs?
To some this will be blatantly obvious but I'm more than a little confused.
I bought a pair of Campag Eurus shimano specific wheels. I have taken a cassette which I'm sure is shimano off my planet x wheel and put this on the Eurus. I am now trying to change to a different cassette. The lockring is not a shimano one as my shimano tool does not fit it. I took the lockring to LBS who showed me a Park Campag tool which fitted fine and gave me the part number BBT-5. They didn't have them in stock but got one at another shop. Got home but this one doesn't fit fully into lockring!!! Managed to get lockring and cassette off and on comparing the hub to a shimano one it looks somewhat different. I also tried to fit a different shimano cassette to this hub but it wouldn't go on. To be honest I had lost the plot by that point and think I may just need to turn the cassette round to line up the different sized splines. At work at moment so can't check this.
Can anyone advise me if this should be the case? I know it's difficult without seeing it but I was under the impression that a shimano specific campag wheel would take a shimano tool.......
Help!!

Ok having reviewed the situation whilst calmer here is the lie of the land. I have managed to fit a replacement shimano cassette which must mean I have a shimano hub right? But the lockring is a campag fit. The removal tool I bought will fit into it when encouraged with a heavy object (off the wheel I hasten to add) The lockring that comes with the shimano cassette will not fit into the hub. Can I buy a replacement campag lockring in the hope that the tool will fit it properly and in turn it will screw into my hub. The one that came with the wheel is just black in colour with no brand and merely shows how tight to tighten it.
Anyone?Giant Anthem X3 20130 -
What does it say on the lockring?
Just because the wheel is campag doesn't mean it has to be a campag lockring. I have a set of campy compatible zipp wheels that use an alloy pedalforce? lockring with the campag thread and require a shimano tool.
Campag parts tend a have a tighter fit than shimano, don't they?0 -
Plain black lockring no make stamped on it just the words 10 sp, lock with a direction to tighten and the torque setting. I'll have a look for the pedalforce ring that you use as the shimano tool i have from Ed Bicycle is a socket which fits my torque wrench nicely.
Interestingly mechanics in 2 shops both said it was a bizarre axle nut and that this was the reason that the tool wouldn't fit into the lockring at which point I really had to remove the lockring and show them otherwise.........Giant Anthem X3 20130 -
I have a set of campag wheels and also got a record campag bb. I have 2 tools. Both tools stated that they were lockring and BB removal tools, however.. only one of them will fit the lockring as its too thick to move down past the axle nut in the wheel which you can see in your picture. perhaps this is the problem ? unfortunately there's no id on the tools so I can't tell you the one that works. I would have bought from either Wiggle/Parker or Ribble.0

It is a Campag 10 lock ring. With the correct tool it is easy.
As for the strange lock nut your mechanic needs some training as this has not changed for many a year and is the standard campag axle nut tha is also on Fulcrum wheels.Racing is life - everything else is just waiting0 -
Thanks. The campag tool in the shop that has been well used fits perfectly. I bought the same Park tool in a different shop and it doesn't fit. I could take the lockring off and hammer the tool into it and it would go but would prob be a tad difficult to get out again. I will maybe see if I can try another campag lockring with my tool in case that helps. The mechanic left me with the immortal words "I don't really deal with road wheels".............Giant Anthem X3 20130
