Please forgive my ignorance but what tires would fit 20mm rim (Velocity Aerohead O/S) and 23mm rims (Synergy O/S)?

Also does anyone have any experience with off set rims?

They look like a good idea to me.

errr, if you mean standard 700c road bike rims, then lots of 700c tyres, such as Conti GP4000s (from 20mm to 23mm), Michelin ProRace etc etc. You get the idea...

When you say "off set rims" do you means rims with spoke holes drilled off centre, supposedly to accomodate higher spoke tensions when the wheels are being built. If so, it has little to no bearing on what tyres to use. With a 20mm rim (measured across the braking track) you should go no larger than about 28mm tyres, generally speaking. Broader tyres require broader rims...

Go to www.schwalbe.co.uk and download their technical information.

On page 6 it has a table of rim widths & possible tyre widths. Reading the text makes me think that they have got the titles for the axes the wring way round.

I use 28mm wide Gatorskins on my 19mm mountain bike rims. I wouldn't want to go any narrower.

you sure they're 19mm MTB rims? That's kinda narrow [read very].

Not really. 19mm is about standard for XC bikes. I would say it's the most common size on new mountain bikes.

I've got big fat rims on my dirt bike, but only because they're tough enough to take the knocks. It would take a lot to knock big Halos out of true. You don't need a 30mm Halo Combat rim for 2.3 inch tyres, according to Mavic a 2.3 inch tyre will fit a 17mm rim.

If you want really wide rims, Surly will do you a Large Marge which they claim to be 65mm, but it's 65mm across the braking surfaces so it's probably about 59mm in standard measurements. It would probably take a tyre of over 4" if anybody made one.

Thanks everyone. I want a road rim off set for tension I think the Velocity Synergy O/S 23mm should do it as I will probably run 28's..

Now does anyone know where such a rim can be purchased in the UK?
