Does anyone know the max sprocket size you can use on a short cage Dura Ace rear mech? I'm planning on fitting a 12-27 cacasette, but I'm not sure it will work

I think all road mechs are listed at 27T max, i have ran a 28, 30 and a 32 MTB cassette on a sora (different i realise), the 28 worked flawlessly, see many specilized bikes like the tarmac and roubaix coming with a 11-28 as standard (SRAM one), 30 worked okay , 32 did definetly not!

I have seen people post up links to custom 10 speed cassettes that go up to 30 and said they worked fine... wouldnt want to spend that much on cassettes though, but then my kit currently is bottom of the range...

12 to 27 with a short cage mech is fine, you ought to check the chain length so it can cope with both extremes.
