I want to spend about £1300 on a new road bike. Initially for fitness but with aims to do the London Paris next year. Been looking at Focus (price now gone up) and Ribble. What other bikes should I consider I'm 6'2

Thanks

Spesh Roubaix Elite, approx 1100 and still some left for pedals and shoes. If you're not going to race then the Focus might be to aggressive a ride position. The Roubaix is a more relaxed geomety and comfy as hell. (i'm 6' 0") and my LBS fitted me with a 56". Go to your nearest Specialised dealer and get them to give you one to try. I bought one to do the same thing

agree - roubaix elite - was £1300, now reduced to £1099 in most places which will see you with some pedals / shoes with the change,

lovely comfort inspired geometry will be ideal for fitness and rides such as the london-paris where it won't beat you up after a long day in the saddle.

it's a nice carbon frame, comes with 105 which is a great mid-range groupset and the bike will be ideal to add a few personal 'upgrade' touches as you go along (you will want to upgrade whatever bike you get - it's like an illness that seems to afflict all road cyclists!)

Orbea Onix, you can pick one up for your budget with 105 groupset. Nice carbon frame which is not too sporty and it is a bit different from the big american brands.IMO

Thank you this is great advice and had not really considered a specialised before but will no go and look at one. You mentioned a specialised dealer - how does somewhere like evans measure up in terms of services etc.
and last question should I go for a triple or copact (don't even know if this is an option with this bike!)

    Thanks

Along with Markos1963 I'm a big Orbea fan. Lovely, quality bikes made by a Basque company (a collective no less). Euskatel ride them in the professional tour. Dealers popping up all over the place now (we have three in Bristol alone) and you should be able to find out more from the Orbea website. Also, have a look at Epic who do a few good Orbea deals based around the Onix frame: http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/

Specialized concept stores also have 10% of value of bike off of accessories summer offer to at (dunno if non concept stores do to). Just bought a Robaix Elite myself, got shoes, pedals, gloves, saddle bag, cage, bottles, shorts to all for under £1300
