Charity Bike Rides...

So I've been cycling for a couple of months now and loving it. I am also closely involved in two small charities. I've been thinking about trying to take part in an organised ride somewhere in the South that would enable me to raise money for these two charities.
I'd love to take part in an event to such as those organised by Bike Events, but most appear to be for particular charities (British Heart Foundation etc.). Are there any organised charity bike rides that allow you to raise funds for your charity of choice in the way that Great Northern Run or London Marathon allow?

I'd say you've got two options...
1) To do a one day ride in the UK. There aren't really any specifically "open" charity events, but there's nothing to stop you doing a sportive (e.g. a Sunday Sportive or something organised by Evans Cycles) and raising money by doing it.
2) Do a multi day event. Discover Adventure organise an number of open charity challenges ranging from London - Paris to cycling across Cuba or Vietnam. You can either pay to do it then raise money, or if you raise enough the charity will cover the cost.
I got on a bike for the first time 6 months ago and am doing Paris - Geneva in September and really looking forward to it
Hope this helps0 -
I rode the Tour of Wessex last year for charity. I just paid my entrance fee and then asked people to sponsor me for the ride itself.0

Hello Zwoooosh,
I was in a similar position to yourself, but I found that in order to give the charity the maximum amount of money you 're probably better off riding one-day events where you can keep expenses down to a minimum.
For example,in the past I've ridden the Manchester 100 mile event which is organised by Bike Events.Although most people who take part are riding on behalf of Christies (as I have in the past),the last time I rode for my company's nominated charity and nobody minds.
At the end of this month I'll be doing this:
Help for Heroes!
which again is keeping the expenses to a low level!
I wish you well in whatever you do!
Cheers,

Thanks guys. All very helpful comments. Maybe I will take a closer look at the Bike Events options. Sportives sounds like fun but also rather daunting...0
