Cantilever upgrade to V brakes

Hi,
I have read in the "Big Blue Book" that cantilever brakes share the same mounting system as V-brakes, I have a really old mountain bike that I would like to fit V brakes to that currently has cantilevers.
Has anybody done this, is is as straight forward as you might first think?
Thanks,
Stephen

Cant comment on how easy it is, but coincidentally thinking of doing the same to my old bike, and saw a V brake kit in halfords today for about £27 for both ends.0

new levers and brakes. the stops are abit different ie the hangers are not needed with the V's."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Also, are new levers required because the cable travel is different with V brakes?
Thanks,

yes new levers due to cable pull.
the hangers where the cable outers are stopped and then below it the straddle wire is hung from the brake wire. it will not be used with the V brakes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

i did it on my brothers old bike for him, Avid single something or others were less than a tenner a set,
i would recoomend using new cable's, inners and outers, makes it a bit easier to get the lengths more suited,Timmo.
