Hi everyone, I'm new to cycling and looking for a semi-decent bike to try and get fit again.

I'm not looking to spend a huge amount (under £400 if possible) and have narrowed it down to these three

GT R series 5 £350
Pinnacle Sentinal 1.0 £400
Claud Butler Roubaix T £350

If anyone has any advice on these or any others that you think would be a good buy (or any tips that will stop me collapsing on my first ride :D) it would be great

Thanks, Adam

To avoid collapsing on your first ride, just take things easy and enjoy. Speed and endurance come with time.

You could also look at s\h on ebay. I bought a s\h specialized allez off ebay to get me started, really great bike. An extra £100 on your budget should get you a new one if you shop around. Also take a look at last years clearance bikes, you can save quite a bit on the new price if you look hard enough.

A bike is only the start though, you need to think about helmet, shoes, shorts, jacket, pump, basic toolkit etc etc.

    Take it easy and enjoy.

Yes, me being a newbie never took this into consideration and ended up spending an extra £150 which I could'nt really afford, but it had to be done.

Hi Adam, you might also want to look at the Giant SCR range if you haven't already. I got an SCR 2, which I think is brilliant, about five months ago for £380 (bargain - it was a 2006 model). You might find some of the 2007's going cheap at the moment.

I would second that, instead of going for a Pinnacle or Claud Butler, you might take a look at the Giant range. That's how i got started.
