What lid for XC racing

Looking for a lightweight helmet for xc, currently using a Giro hex for general trail stuff but this needs replacing, thinking of trying a Giro Monza which I know is a roady lid but most xc racers tend to use those type of helmets. Not looking to spend more than £50, although I do like the Specialized Propero

Helmets are very personal and one which fits one guy may not fit another very well.
Also, they are slightly different sizes so it is definitely a case of try before you buy.
If you can afford it, have 2, one for trail use and one for racing. Streako

why would you need/want 2 helmets, one for racing one for recreational? :?:
i have a Specialised 2D that i use for XC and road, and xc race.. all i do is remove peak for road
find a helmet you like, make sure that it fits when you've got your hair as long as it'll be and can wear your shades under it! and then fit and forget?0 -

Didn't know the 2D came with a peak, never seen any pics of it with it on.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0 -

I will probably get two when I can afford it:
a) Trail lids tend to be a bit heavier and offer more protection.
b) It is useful to have two in case you break one.
c) Racing helmet would be lightweight with more vents. And brighter colours. Streako

Bought one last weekend.
Fits nicely, comfy and good value.
Thought it was about time I upgraded from my Lidl lid that I bought over a year ago & have crash tested a few times.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Mark - at Lidl hat comment!
Find the Giro Encinal works a treat.
Or if you crash a lot, these work well - but the venting is a bit limited.

I second that the specialized lids are very good0

Just bought myself a Met Veleno in matt black, it fits on my head and keeps me cool, but not sure if it works or not yet (touch wood I won't have to find out)

I have a Bell Slant.
Good ventilation, good looks, good price (£36.99)0 -
Another Encinal fan here - actually my second after I crashed the first.
A lot of lid for the money.

I have a Catlike Kompact Pro... awesome so far. Keeps me cool and it's feather light imo.
Looks pretty nice too... finding them is difficult. I took a risk and ordered one online.

I use a piss pot style helmet for everything, mtb, skating, kiteboarding etc... so long as you wear a helmet and it is comfy then its all good.0

I would have though a pi$$ pot would be too hot for XC racing. You tend to need something with good ventilation to keep the old head cool - well I do anyway. That's why I switched from a Giro Xen to an Ionos (even though the Ionos is a road helmet.0
