First time in almost 50 years!

I was undecided where to put this so feel free to move it!
I've been cycling for almost 50 years and today, it happened - my back wheel was clipped by a bus! Slight graze to right elbow and knee, bruising to left flank and KO'd for a few minutes! Yes, I have been to hospital and everything is alright.
The bike did not do as well as I! I am now sporting a new type of wheel - 10 spokes in one quadrant! Both dropouts bent, rear mech in pieces and drive side chainstay bent.
Other damage includes, smashed helmet (only 4 days old!) Old Fart jersey with a hole on on pocket (First time on!) and ATC camera mount. Police and insurance reports completed and I'm claiming a new bike as the bike is only one month old - can you safely re-bend aluminium? Have to visit the insurance company on Friday.
Don't worry about me, I'll be cycling in a few days!

Bent alu frame means a new one, probably easier to get new bike depends on the insurance company.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Yeah, its a crying shame, there's a bent easton road frame in my parent's shed. UPDATE:- Mrs Hippo & I took the old bike to the insurance company this morning. I was expecting a 'debate' with them but I was pleasantly surprised! They paid full value for the bike and accessories so we went to ProBike, Bangkok for the replacement - a black & silver Trek 7200, slightly different from the 'old' one; it has different handlebars and 'twist grip' gears. My injuries have all healed and I am looking forward to taking it out tomorrow.0

If you have an average of one mishap in 50 years.
Does that mean, according to probability theory, that your next one is due in another 50 years?
I would get a new frame re bending is not an option. Hope the insurance pays out with minimal grief.
Take care.Racing is rubbish you can\'t relax and enjoy it- because some bugger is always trying to get past.0 -
Mr Hippo - nice one for sorting it out so well - must have shaken you up though.
Presume if you have been cycling for 50 years, then you are probably a little older than most of us? Very encouraging - planning to keep cycling to my last breath.
Our local vicar still cycles into town and back daily (2 miles each way) and he's 820 -
50 years isn't bad, I'd take a percentage like that anyday! I've been regulalry cycling to work for the last 4 years and I had my first spill on Wednesday. I was riding from Hammersmith to Chiswick and this guy in some old banger pulls alongside me and decides to turn left into a side-road, completely taking me out. Flipped over the handlebars, over the corner of his car and end up in a heap on the pavement. Fortunately I just suffered a few bumps and bruises and the bike is surprisngly fine. I was lucky and I'm kind of just shrugging it off with the thought that "it had to happen some time or later". The bloke that knocked me off did stop as well and offered to pay any damage, so, although he's a rubbish driver, he wasn't a complete dick....0

May I just clarify something? It was my first accident with a motorised vehicle in 50 years of cycling. I have had minor ones and the only other big one involving hospital treatment was in about 1985 when two of use collided when Ste was paying more attention to a fox chasing a hare..
Surf-Matt, I'm 60 this year but still enjoying cycling. Talking about your local vicar reminds me of a club member, Old Bill Murphy, he was well into his 80s and still doing about 100 miles per week. He was small and muscular and a great climber, always rode a 3 speed roadster with drops. I remember on one club run, going up the Horseshoe Pass and passing Bill about 300 yards from the top (I am not a climber but I was feeling great that day) As soon as I passed Bill, I died - never was able to beat Bill uphill!0 -
