Hi, just bought set of second hand shimano xt 775 wheels which came with centre lock rotors. i already have avid juicy 5 disk brakes. I was told they would not work together despite both being 160mm. Thought i'd give them a try before buying some avid rotors and centrelock adapters, and hey presto, they seem fine together! Can anyone think of a reason why it might be a bad idea to use this avid/shimano mix? Thanks, joe

Basically - If you get any problems/warranty issues/crash and feel like sueing the brake companies you won't have a leg to stand on.

you need a lockring tool. it has lttle splines on one end and a hex head on the other for a spanner or socket.

    I disagree.

it would be anti competitive avid to insist you use the avid rotor, unless there is something technically different about them so that they work in a particular way with the caliper.

I have hayes nines, with shimano centrelock hubs and rotors, and as long as the rotors are the right size for the caliper and any adapter required, they work fine!

Just a word of warning (hope I haven't posted too late but) I have a Park tools casette tool (from awhile ago) and it was fine for putting the disc on my front wheel (Shimano WH-M775) but it wouldn't fit over the axle properly on the back so I couldn't tighten the disc up properly. Ended up buying a Shimano one as well.

Park may have changed the tool now but for me it was a pain.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
