Hi,
Just got my bike back from the shop where the free hub was serviced. It's a DT swiss custom rear hub as stock on a 08 expert stumpjumper FSR.
The clicking noise is smooth now but a new noise has appeared. It sounds like bad bearings and it only occours when the free wheel is turning backwards.
I tried to take the freewheel off but couldn't get the lockring off. Even with a chain whip. Then the freewheel came off when I undid the bolt inside the lock ring and I was looking at th e indside of the freehub. Managed to get it all together but still not sure how the free hub body would come out of the casesette.
The sounds still there. Is it the catridge bearings does anyone know? Also is there anyting I can do? Would getting the lockring off somehow help me.

cassette tool and chain whip. as per parktools."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

If it's a dt swiss 240 hub (and similar) then the free wheel (cassette still attached) just pulls off to let you get at the ratchet mechanism inside - you don't need to remove the cassette.. What DT hub?0

Still trying to do that. Is it likely to help me solve my bearing noise with it if I can get it off?My Ride Stumpjumper Expert 20080

yes I think it is a Dt 240 custom made for the manufacturer of the bike.

It's a Cerit/Onyx hub it'll have needle bearings in the freehub on the side closest to the hud body. These corrode, and run noisily and are notoriously difficult to source.
There are plenty of spares for the Onyx, but most OEM hubs are Cerit and have slightly narrower bearings. When I've ordered Cerit spares lately, they've come with Onyx needle bearings which are 0.7mm wider and cause the freehub to bind.
The best thing to do is grease them and live with it until you can source the correct parts. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0
