Hi All

Don't know much about bikes prior to 2003  so would be grateful for any help with the following.
My Brother in law has just sold me two old raleighs. Both very good condition and I guess early 1990's. One is a raleigh marked as 2060 tubing with the strange bonded joints. Its a swirly purple colour. Everything on board seems to be Sachs new success.
frame markings - A4780 and 03485549 Raleigh Special Division. (I think there were some MTBs of the time made in a similar way/colourscheme

The second may be more interesting its blue with decals marked as team raleigh and is marked up as dyna tech. Shimano 600 series and early dura ace components under the frame is stamped SB 9597.5.92 m.m.c. P.Strong

I am probably going to keep one of them to turn into a single speed and pass on the other. Does anyone have experience of either - which should I keep and which pass on ? ?
Thanks

Funny that, but I don't know a great deal about modern Raleighs, I get to the mid eighties and my knowledge dries up. However...

Dynatech was a brand of the special products division, so both of them are probably pretty special as Raleighs of that age go. As I said I don't know that much, but I do remember Raleigh doing some frames with bonded joints and the tubing on them was titanium. So you may well have a titanium frame there on the first bike. Don't know how to be sure though.

Have you condidered contacting Raleigh themselves to see if they can shed any light?

"...Raleigh doing some frames with bonded joints and the tubing on them was titanium."

SOME of the bonded main frames with the "swirly paint" were Ti (I had such an MTB til recently), but not all. IF the stickers still intact, will state "Titanium" (I'll see if I can find a photo of mine - the MTBs were "Diabalo" stickered on top tube). If it is - keep it!

The Team also sounds good. Some recorded the builder - P. Strong???

    Photos would help.

NorwegianBlue, I very much doubt that Raleigh as is now will either have or care about ID'ing past models. The various changes of ownership were VERY murky affairs - not sure if the company investigators ever reached any conclusions about the group "affairs". And all the old site went in a deal with the University as I recall.

Thanks for your respones and sorry about the time delay. I have taken a couple of photos which i will try and post below - or link to whichever seems to work. Photos of the swirly paint work bike to follow. As regards the Blue one - some further info. the drops are cinelli criterium and the wheels are marked up as wolbeck t430 Alpine. the saddle is a selle italia turbo matic !. Brother in law seems to think that the bike may have been raced in europ. is it possible that the rider was P . Strong. Possibly the S.B. stands for a custom build. the cranks are Dura Ace - rear mech Ultegra. Decals also include "continental" and "`reynolds" - although there seems to be nothing else to suggest that it is Reynolds. I don't know how to embed photos so hopefully the following will work.
