Finally picked up my new Rockhopper Disc today and immediately hit the road for a test ride. Zero registered all the time on the computer. After having a little tweek about its apparent that the magnet is not close enough to the other bit. Its all in the right place but I can't see any way of getting the magent closer, anyone else had this issue and if so how can it be rectified ?

My Cateye computer gave up the ghost when I put 100mm forks on my previously 80mm bike.
I couldnt be bothered fettling anymore and now think of a ride in terms of time spent in the saddle.
Interestingly, my ancient Avenir wired computer carried on for maybe 8 years before I ripped the cable on a bush. Streako

Try moving the magnet closer to the hub where the spokes are further away from the centreline and closer to the fork leg.
Secondly, try rotating the sensor, some of them are of such a shape that if you rotate them around the fork a little, they protrude closer towards the spokes.0 -
have you got the computer on the stem or the bars? Try moving it about a bit to see how close it needs to be to register - just to check it actually works at all!0

Is it a case of can't get the magnet closer to the sensor or can't get the sensor close enough to the computer?
I had the latter problem, the computer was 2 inches too far away from the sensor and I couldn't move it any further up the forks. New battery may help if this is the case or a new computer , I got a Trek 8i Incite as a replacement and it's been fine (except when I put it right next to my Garmin GPS and it registered 900 mph  ).It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
The magnet cannot get any closer by moving it up down the spoke. The reader is attached to my fork and I can't see anywhere else to put it. The instructions say to keep a max distance from the reader to the magnet of 5mm, its currently about 10-15.
It definately works, I took it off the spoke and ran it past a couple of times with my hand and it registers.
Hope that's understandable, otherwise I'll take a snap and add a link0 -
Hmm, try putting something between the fork and the sensor to make it stick out a little more.
Some of them come with a strip of protective rubber to stop it scratching the fork leg, try doubling that over, and then zip-tying it on or something.0 -
yeah I'll give that a go. It was fitted by the shop and had a small distance logged but I can't see how they possibly got it close enough the way its set up now, cheers tho, i'll give that a go.0

I had exactly the same problem, couldn't get the spoke magnet close enough to the sensor for it to read andi hate bodging stuff on me bike, so i took it back to the shop and bought some clamp on grips, much better.
Also, my computer had some readings already on it when i bought it, might just be a test thing they do in the factory before they package them.0
