Ok... so I went ages without a puncture, then the other day i got one (which is fair enough). However..... When I had my last puncture, I repaired by placing a new inner tube, and a new Tyre on the bike (Michelin Pro Race 2 tyres, and I believe continental inne tube).

Now, I went out this morning, and had no problems. I got home, about half hour later, my tyre just burst....... WITHOUT MOVING THE DAMN THING........ I was just sitting in the dining room and it went. But its not the first time, it keeps F%# happening...... What the hell am I doing wrong?

P.S. I made sure I did not pinch the inner tube when I placed it on the tyre.

One days its gonna pop like that when Im going 30 MPH down the road, so I could REALLY do with fixing this b*****h of a problem before it kills me.

    Hi,

Ive checked time and time again, and cant seem to find anything..... They're new wheels by the way. I should have mentioned that. (these ones i think they're dual layer? The spokes are down small holes which has been covered using rim tape (non adhesive). Is this a case of needing adhesive rim tape???

I had a similar problem, inner tube was not bursting, just getting odd punctures all the time.

Looked at the rim and could not find anything, so my dad got his grinder out and we smoothed all the bits that looked bad, then put double rim tape, so far so good no problems and hopefully wont for some time!

    hi,

THanks for the info willhub, sounds promising actually. I searched rim for any deformancies in the area of the puncture, but simply nothing there!... This is my third and last inner tube I have right now, so I hope it lasts. I have done what I did last time, except this time I used multiple plastic levers to help me get tyre on and off (this helped a little keeping the inner tube out of the way), and I have also put 2 layers of masking tape over the spoke holes, then replaced the rubber rim tape after giving it a wipe.

If you dont hear any more on this thread... problem solved lol.

Really annoying when you consider my back tyre has not had a ....... actually I'm not gonna say it or it'll end up happening. I think you know what Im referring to!

P.S. I also notice that it usually seems to be a sunday when I have work til 9Am, and back in at 5..... my bike aint stupid... it does these things when I need sleep lol.

    so far so good...

On another note, I was quite pleased today to find a product that is seemingly going to save me ALOT of time.

I always seem to have problems repairing punctures..... some times they work some times they dont but they always have a tendancy to start fallin off (Despite me sanding the area).

Well i was in halfords today and I noticed some slime skabs. (Peel and stick patches).

Now the 5 inner tubes that i could just not fix in my draw have all been fixed within the space of 10 minutes!!!.

First impression is I am really impressed with these patches as they have been extremely effective.

Now its down to the time bit... Can they hold up for the months to come? Soon find out! (or hopefully I wont find out)

Just thought i would share that as i was quite impressed by their product.

Think these are ok for low-pressure MTB tubes, but not that reliable for high pressure road tubes from my experience (unless they've improved them)

Skabs don't last forever. Had one lift after 5 years
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I'd swop the rim tape for a good quality adhesive one. IMO the rubber type always end up deforming (stretched) or moving off the middle when you're shoving your tyre back on. I've never had a problem with adhesive rim tape giving me punctures but I have with the rubber non-adhesive. Rim tape's cheap as foo anyway so its well worth a go.

I had a nasty rim tape-related incident a few weeks ago, was about halfway through a long ride and BANG the front tyre went, instantly.

At first I was puzzled about the cause of the ruptured inner tube, but then I realised that the rim tape had somehow become displaced to the side and the inner tube had exploded through one of the spoke holes in the rim.

I did my best to put the rim tape back in place and, after replacing the inner tube, spent the rest of the ride dreading that it would happen again... not good! Perhaps some new rim tape may be in order!

I'd agree with this; I've never had any success with the self-adhesive patches.

Sounds like not enough adhesive, or not a large enough area covered, or a combo.

Line the tyre with an old tube or two. They've already been paid for, why buy more stuff?
    I had to do it.

Maybe try better rim tape. The inner tube will be forcing itself down those holes to the spokes. The edges are sharp.

I've been biking for 40 years and have never had that happen, but I never have removed the rim tape, either.

I HAVE used tubes with rims as you suspect and had no problem, as well.
    I had to do it.

    .

I had the same thing happen to me in the winter. I had pumped up my tyres to the max pressure outside when the bike was cold. I had brought into the house to dry off after riding and I guess that the difference in temperature must have made the pressure in the tube go sky high. It blew my tyre off the rim.

I let my tyre pressure down when taking my bike inside.

What pressure are you putting in webbhost ?
Road or MTB ? What size tyres ?
How accurate is your pressure gauge...?
