Audax on a cross bike?

I am getting kinda audax curious but I'd have to do it on my cross bike as I don't have a road bike.

I have some 25mm slicks for it but the gearing is just 1x7, 42 front and 12-32 rear. Any thoughts on how suitable this would be? I have the impression that an audax wouldn't be about racing along anyway.

Or is this an excuse to buy a new bike :)

Go for it. You know one bike is never enough.

    Sounds OK to me.

It'll be absoulutely fine - Audax is about steady, consistent progress, not dashing about until your legs fall off. Low gears are far more important that high on long rides.

    Thanks for the replies

I am gonna do a road century on it in July so I guess that will answer it :)

I was feeling that it will just force me to rest on the downhills
