As there have been a lot of questions from newbs recently about clipless pedals, I thought I would share the following:

Undoubtedly the best rated beginner clipless MTB pedal is the Shimano M520, for many reasons (see reviews). I have just come across them at an incredible price on one of the online retailers that doesn't get too much of a mention, but some people swear by them, and that's MERLIN. (Never used them myself till 2nite)

If you've never tried clipless, this price is excellent. Currently over £9 cheaper than Wiggle and £4 cheaper than CRC.

Only prob I've found is they state "available in Black and Silver" but you don't get to make your choice of colour during ordering. I don't give a toss at that price, they could be pink for all I care. Try the link below if you're interested, I think they'e excellent value.

Quite a lot use Merlin, they do reliable wheel builds (usually) and some really good deals on Rockshox Forks. Hence they're usually mentioned in any wheels or forks thread. :)

I've got some M520 from there too, very good :)

I have the M520s, as does my brother, work well, look smart, dirt cheap,...what else do you want from pedals?

    Highly rated

I've got a set of M520's on the 'local' ride bike, great pedals.

And a set of XTR M970's on the full susser, again great pedals, but with added bling ;)

The real bonus is that I got both 2nd hand and paid £40 for the 2 pairs in total :D
