That's a trick question isn't it Andy! The man is not eligible for a Darwin Award because he died after contributing to the human gene pool. Perhaps he should have spent more time seeing drugs counsellors rather than trying to become one himself?
A young couple once tried to win a D.A. in Hebden Bridge. I heard the sound of a violent argument coming from a car as it sped past me. I turned to see what was going on and saw the driver take her hands off the wheel and start slapping her partner about the head. The car shot off the road and embedded itself in the corner of a nearby building! The guy was knocked out and the woman was screaming, but I don't think that they did themselves any permanent damage.
Talking of The Darwin Awards... Did you see the one about the guy who won the 1993 Honorable Mention for almost becoming the first person to win an award without even dying? Here is the charming tale of Scrotum Self-repair!0 -

I didn't make it to the end of that one... felt somewhat queasy.

"He started with cannabis at the age of 17 before progressing to ecstasy and then heroin"
I thought progress was a good thing.0 -
