If you had the chance to make up your bike from off-the-shelf bits
& pieces, what would you go for? :

Choose a range(s) of your choice

a) budget bike
b) up to a £1000
c) unlimited price

I do this every couple of months anyway

But for the good of the thread, money no object build:

    Seven Sola frame

    Carbon rigid forks

    Nice thin tyres (1.8")

Tune cranks, rims, hubs, finishing kit

    XTR gearing

Would basically use poshbikes for EVRYTHING!

    Category C (no surprises there)

    c)
Most expensive everything, and the bike must come complete with a body guard that is prepared to kill anyone who tries to steal it.

i dunno if anyone would choose anything less than option C for a dream bike?
    I've pretty much got mine.
marin quake 7.3 - but if i got a bit more money i'd do stuff like chris king headset, ummmmm, i like the forks, shock, wheelset, brakes, frame... ah i'd swap the rear dropouts for a 12mm through axle, change the 1 1/8 headtube on the totems for a 1.5" and get a fully custom front and rear suspension tune ie get them to come out onto a trail with me and all that.
thats about it really. yeah. i'm pretty happy with my bike (nicknamed the mountain destroyer. this isn't a heavily built all mountain bike - that seems to imply the mountain is still in control of you and your bike - its a mountain destroyer ha ha)

Option c) I'd start building on what I've got.

Orange 5 Pro and I'd start adding smatterings of Chris King and XTR throughout. Up-spec my mono minis with all the fancy addons. Upgrade to 2009 Fox Floats if they do in fact live up the hype. Lashings of Exotic finishing gear...

    That'd probably be it...

Mmm, I've pretty well much got mine as it's my only hobby, so why not spend the money on it.

    a) I would just buy a Malt from Merlin.C`ant really build one cheaper and for a budget bike build I`d probably go for the same bits they`ve chosen anyway!
b)For £1k,I`d buy an On One Scandal frame for £250,an XT groupset, with wheels from Merlin for £450,and some Reba SLs for £225.The change would have to buy a headset, and a new seapost, and the tyres, stem, bars, post and pedals would have to come from my current bike,if I was to be on budget.
    c) Tough one,but probably a Santa Cruz superlight, in anodised finish with Fox F120RLC Forks, Stans ZTR rims on XTR hubs, full XTR ,chainset ,mechs and shifters,RF Next bars and stem,Thomson post,XTR pedals,

My ideal bike would have 6 inches of travel either end, weigh 15lbs and cost 100 quid ;-)

I'd make do with a GT Zaskar Carbon though lol
