Guys,
My girlfriend is itching to come with my brother and I around Thetford etc (if only to keep an eye on me) so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what I could get for her. I'd like to get something not too expensive in case she doesn't like it, so any recommendations?

what kind of riding are you doing? and is it just for off road, or on road a bit as well? and what do you mean by "not too expensive"?- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0

I would go for some Trek. They have a nice line up of womans bikes.
If you have a small budget and your girlfriend is a total noobie a would go for V-brakes:
4500 WSD 400£ or why not for hydraulics disc brakes:
6500 WSD 700£.
Those are both HT but if you can afford 900£ you can buy her a
FS Fuel EX 5.5 WSD.
Cheers .0 -
ARGH just closed the window with the post i'd written out. went something like...
^^^ £700 / £900 for a beginners bike that they dunno if they'd like? also forget V's you can happily get disc brakes and front sus for £300.
i helped my ex get a giant yukon w for £300 http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/bik ... 431/31734/ which is an alright bike.
try to get women specific bike as it will generally help with geometry and comfort.
there are several companies that do womens bikes these days.
specialized, giant and marin are a few that immeadiately come to mind.0 -
Wow, dirtbiker100 that bike is good for the money so the Treks are off my list (they are expensive).
I've changed my mind and I would go for Giant Yukon0 -
See what's going in her size secondhand. Lots of people buy new bikes for their other halves that get very little use before going on eBay.
One lady owner and all that.0 -

My girlfirend had a 4500 WSD as her first mtb, she didn't like it and has since got a new frame, but... if you do want a cheaper trek, they do a 4300 WSD aswell, the specialised range is well worth a look, thats what most of my customers used to go for.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0 -
my wife has the pink marin for £470 and she is very happy with mainly because it is bright pink, but it is a good bike however.0

I've also been looking for a bike for my better half and she's decided she quite likes these (Well she likes the colours anyway):

Any reason not to go for one of these?0 -
Her indoors has a Specialized Myka with cable disk brakes. It's a reasonable bike for the money (about £370) and she says she doesn't need anything better. Oh, and she likes the butterflies  :roll:0

A good bike for your girlfriend sounds like a good swopPictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

Suppose it depends on the Girlfriend. I'd swap mine for some cable donuts sometimes.0 -

I take it she doesn't read this forum then?"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
So what budget then? lol0

Do people think this would be ok for a women?
Maybe a different saddle with it.

or perhaps this womens specific design one by Focus

Maybe! As always best to try. Many 'men's' bikes fit fine.0

The Malt 1 is very good value, womens specific design bike tend to suit people with shorter upper bodys and longer less (proportionatly), also used to find that wsd bike were a waste of time for taller women, alot of time they'd find the mens version more comfortable.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0 -

Hard tail?
29er?
Fully rigid?

Bought my missus a spesh rockhopper disc, she loves it more than she loves me, and yes it's a blokes bike, when asked she didn't want a womans one.0
