hi all.
my bikes just gone in for a bit of an overhaul and i got a call saying my rear mech was on its last legs. its a Shimano Acera 8sp mech on a gt aggressor. halfords (yes, i know...) said they can give me a Shimano Alivio mech for £30 fitted. i was thinking of getting this instead of the alivio:

but dont know if its compatible. anyone got suggestions? (im wanting to pay around £20ish)
cheers

deore will work and is better than Alivio."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Should be compatible, it's the shifters that control how far the mech moves, so as longas you have Shimano shifters then all should be good.
The Deore mech should be crisper in it's shifting than the Alivio.
CRC are also doing one of the LX mechs for £ 19.99 as well.

I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Yes, will work fine with 8 speed. I've had one of those for years and it's now reaching the end of its life. Good quality kit.I'm only concerned with looking concerned0

Go for the LX. Last a fair bit longer than Deore.0

£30 for an alvilo is far too much. LX is the better buy by a long way.Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)
