anyone using road disc brakes?
Thinking of building up a touring bike with disc brakes, because I have used cantilever brakes with STI levers before and didn't like them. (The fiddliness, the squealing, the lack of bite.)
So how well do road disc brakes work with STI/ergo levers, and what choice is there? I can only find these:

...I presume they have to be mechanical rather than hydraulic, due to the fact hydraulic ones have to have their own levers with fluid reservoir in them or something like that...?

No problems at all with sti levers and once bedded in (as with all discs) they are very good indeed.0 -
What forks do you use, do they alter the head angle of your bike?0

I have the Avid 7 disck brake on my Litespeed Blue Ridge tourer, it works fine and seems to be getting a little better now I have a few miles on it. Originally I had Avid Shorty cantilevers but they squealled like an old bus and grabbed very badly at times. After I almost crashed because of the cantilever brake I decided something must be done.
I replaced the fork with a disc specific alloy/carbon fork from Redwood in the USA. It is identical in geometry from the original fork (45 mm rake) and rides just the same. It was not a cheap option but makes the bike so much nicer to ride.
