YAY - i'm so sad and i know it but am really excited about picking up my boardman mountain pro on thursday - i know the boardmans get a mixed reception on here - but i haven't had bike for around 6 years, and back then it was a real lump of crap!!

someone i work with has said that new brakes take a while to bed in, this i know, but he then went on to suggest that i should pour watter over them and they'd bed in a lot quicker - does this make sense to you guys?

thanks!!

Best way to bed them in is a few hard stops - then just ride it. Don't bother with water - it'll be raining anuway ;-)

    +1

I give new pads a bit of a tickle with the sandpaper and it seems to do the job

Avid recommend 20 to 30 hard stops to bed there pads in.
Find a bit of a hill and come down it a few times pumping the brakes on and off, each time you come down you will notice the difference in braking performance and will lock both wheels up with a light pull after a few goes.

All you are doing is baking the face of the pad so it’s hard as glass and matching the surface of the rota to the pad face so that you get full contact across the face. Sanding the pads only removes the contaminates that you normally find in the manufacture of the pad, if you sand them you have still bed them in.

Different pad materials (resin, organic, metal, ceramic) have there own characteristics for bedding in, even same materials but another manufacture require different ways and time to bed in.
