Truvativ replacement...

I'm about to replace my GT avalanches' chainset, and after looking on parktools website, they advise the importane of having the bottom braket machiend and threaded. As i'm replacing Truvativ 5d for Truvativ Stylo, the threads, being in good condition should there be any need for this?

if you are going to a external bearing bb set up then get the bb shell faced.

I had the bb on my Giant faced to fit an HT2 I paid an LBS £15,which included fitting the chainset,so not much to get it done right.

i didn't get that done when i changed from ISIS to Hollowtech II.... what's the worst that can happen incidently?

if the shell faces are not parallel the bearings might not last as long as they could.

but if my frame is quite new anyway, and mbuk's review said xt HII BB has a short lifespan anyway.... should i care???

I would! Not all new frames are faced - and the faces get covered in paint.

if sabotaging my parts is what it takes for my sexy yet bikeophobe wife to let me buy a new BB then pass me that axe!

my xt ht2 bb which i have had for nearly 6 months has oultasted 2 deore and one LX squre taper bb , i dont know if it makes any diffrence but i do do the preload up very tight (it proberly doesnt do anything apart from make me feel better but hey )
