I have a 2007 Orange P7 with a 100mm stem atop a Fox Vanilla 140 R fork. I read in a mag recently that hardtails with long travel forks benefit from short stems. I'd be interested to hear your opinions on that.

I built my P7 myself, does anybody know what stem size factory-built P7s are shipped with?

Let me guess, you read that in MBR? Yes they can benefit, but MBR seems to think that everone should run 140mm full sussers, with 70mm stems and 67 degree head angles. Depends on geometry of bike, your preference - many things. Shorter stem will quicken the steering and alter your position slightly and take a little weight off the front end. Experimenting is the best bet.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was an MBR group test. I'm trying to borrow a shorter stem to give it a go...
