Five Pro or ST4 Pro ?

I am currently looking at upgrading my tired mid '90s stumpy after rediscovering mountain
biking after a number of years procreating I had decided on an Orange
5 Pro has it seemed to have good reviews all round and had the added bonus of
been British made (a rarity these days) but then Orange brought out the
ST4 Pro which has now put a bit of a spanner in the works. Because I am
used to a hardtail and only 50mm travel folks I don't think the difference
in travel between the two models is going to matter much,or am I wrong? because
I don't get to do a lot of epic rides is the 5 going to be a bit of overkill?
and lastly is the ST4 any good and will you be doing a report on it any
time soon?

GO test ride asa many bikes as you can,
its the only way to get a bike that fits you, many peope love the orange but i did not get on with most of them (plus half of the frames are not built in britain anymore.)if you test ride it with a few others and decide its your favourite least you know you have exauhsted all posibilities0 -
The choice between hardtail and full suss depends to an extent on the comfort you want. I've ordered a 5Pro because I wanted the comfort to take stress from my back. There is so much choice out there so it's worth spending time doing some research.0

Take a look at the Orange web site they show you a chart for each bike and the ride.
The ST4 has not been available for long, and i dont think this has been reviewed in
any mags, and no doubt that there will be a few changes next time round due to
rider input. That always happens.
Both bikes are single pivot.
Take a few test rides on your style of riding and make up your own mind.0 -
Others worth a look, commencal meta 5.5 xt, or some sort of cannondale.0

Try them both. A good Orange dealer should be able to get both of them in as demos if you give them a bit of notice. If you're spending that much money it's probably wise to try out bikes from a few different brands too.
I guess the ST4 should be better for getting up hills and perhaps less work on longer rides. The 5 will be more durable for the rough stuff and perhaps more of an all-rounder as a bike.0
