Am I Lucky Or Is There A Reason?

I am approaching 4000 miles since I had a puncture out on the road , am I just lucky or is there anything behind this?
I only weigh 60kg so does this have any relevence, ie not much downward pressure being exerted in comparison to some riders. I imagine that 60kg is still ample to cause a puncture.
I ride on a good mix of surfaces aswell.
I read that some people get multiple punctures on a single ride so I struggle to see why I never get one!

I don't get many either - and I don't have special puncture resistant tyres. It must be a sign of being a better rider.... :P

I've only had about half a dozen (if that) punctures in about 10k miles.

I have used tyres by Specialized, Michelin and Schwalbe and they all remain puncture free!
Maybe we are better riders ..... more likely lucky riders tho I think RedDragon

Yeah don't tempt fate I went on a ride the other week and somehow began thinking I haven't had a puncture in over a year. 1 mile later puncture including a ripped tyre. Gutted!!

  • i went ages with hardly any punctures (about 4000 miles) but since the new year i must have had half a dozen  Fortunatley all but one have have been slow ones that weren't aparent till after i got home so at least they didn't ruin my ride :)

i think the main reason for mine is riding at night back from work when it's very difficult to spot the hundreds of tiny pieces of glass that are all over the place round here.

I did go through a period of major punctures but that was because the local farmers were hedge cutting. He also punctured my trainers (Nike Air) and my daughters foot as well as my dogs paw.

I just got a new bike, and got a rear puncture after 200 miles. I couldn't find what caused it and after repairing it 3 times in 2 days I ended up dumping the tyre. What a waste.

as a former cycle mechanic I can tell you that when someone gets a lot of punctures in a short time, usually they have the same cause i.e. the hole was patched or tube replaced, but the piece of glass, wire etc stuck in the tire was not removed, or the tire has a tear big enough that the tube bulges through.

Why did I reply to this thread? Got my first puncture in ages today - and neither CO2 canister wanted to inflate the tyre, managed to limp into work though.

Done that once, I now stick to old and reliable technology that works, the pump.
