I have been caught out a couple of time now getting too hot ...

I am new at this so find it hard to judge.

I have been wearing ....

Bibs shorts + lycra tights plus a ss top & jacket ... but getting a bit hot at times ...

It's 11 degrees and I am about to go out and don't know what to wear ...

What would you wear in different temps and what can you take with you in case you get it wrong?

Short sleeve jersey, arm warmers and gilet.

You can then always take off the arm warmers and gilet and whack them in your back pocket.

Hmm ... seems I need to buy more kit as I don't have those items ...

Just walking out bthe door with my usual combo and I will see how I go...

ANy recommendations for which arm warmers & gillet?

What about legs - knees out?

Aldi are getting £6 Gilets in this Thursday, I'm going to get a couple to supplement my Assos gilets. The Assos one is good, although pricey (thankfully I got mine half price new off ebay).

I bought some Gore arm warmers off Wiggle and they seem to be going fine, I'm sure most reputable brands would make good ones aswell.

These armwarmers from Prendas are excellent value for money.

As for your knees, get a pair of kneewarmers which you can take off if the temperature gets a bit warm. Perfect for spring mornings.
  • Musto, you're supposed to feel a little chilly when you first get on the bike, once warmed up you should be fine. Legs generally stay fairly warm just in shorts, as obviously that's the bit doing most of the work. As the others have said, armwarmers and a gilet are great extra items to take/wear, and will fit into the back pockets of your jersey if you do get too warm.

Well I did 30 miles at an average of 17mph; I got too hot ...

I will go for some leg & arm warmers and a gillet ... my misses thinks all these items are most amusing ...

    I ordered one of these

How snug should it be? I guess you don't want a flappy jacket but feels quit snug (but not a s tight as it looks in the picture on the above page.

I will try it on with other gear and pockets full and see; but I want to get it right given the price.
