hi, i lived in East London for a while and hooked up the excellent Essex Roads CC, who are based in Billiricay, Essex. They have a Sunday run leaving at 9am and have a midweek TT series and loads of other things planned throughout the year.
I dont know if this is too far out for you but it would be worth the journey out which wouldnt be bad at all early on a Sunday morning, especially for a ride starting in the countryside. Some lovely roads out there and I can't praise this club high enough for friendliness and good chat! They have a great website you can check out too to learn a bit about them.0 -
Have a look at the club finder section on the British cycling site.0

I am in Romford, and as far as I can see the Billericay club is closest to me too. They have a good website. I haven't plucked up the courage to go yet. My 16mph average is holding me back.0

That was my first club forty years ago and they still have the reputation for being a friendly bunch. Your 16mph average will do just fine.0 -

There's also the Lea Valley CC, who meet for Sunday runs outside Walthamstow Town Hall.

I've spoken to a few members and they seem a really friendly bunch - I've also been threatening to turn up and join them for a while, but usually prefer a ride with my mates.
