Six foot, 15 - 15.5 stone.
I don't ride particularly hard, and I try to be as mechanically sympathetic as possible regarding potholes etc...
I'm thinking about a set of Ksyrium Elites. I hear they're a good, tough wheel, but am I going to taco them in no time?

Im not quite your weight, but my fulcrum racing 1s are pretty bombproof.
Possibly better that the Campang Eurus which IIRC have pretty ,uch teh same spec, as the G3 spoking leaves some parts of rim less supported - handy if you, as Ive done, like to tw4t a curb every now & then...
Mind you, if they ever did go out of tru I dont think Id know how to get em back what with the aero profile spokes n all, and dont know how they compare on cost with the MavicsFitter....healthier....more productive.....0 -
Racing 1's - very nice but slightly beyond my budget!
I have a set of Ksyrium ES's for 'best', but these wheels would be more for day-to-day use and commuting0 -
Ksyrium Elites are more than up to the job and look very blingy looking. I'm 6'2" and a similar weight to yourself and have run a pair for a year now on my road bike with no problems.
If you value serviceablilty and long life above cosmetic factors, 36 spoke handbuilts, or 32f 36 r at least, would be a better bet.
Shimano hubs, Open Pro ceramic rims and DT competition db spokes would come to about the same price.
DT RR 1.1double eyelet rims, DT 240 hubs and DT Competition spokes would allow a stronger 32h build tensioned to 1200N. (Mavic only recommend 900N for their rims but a lot of wheelbuilders use more than this) A bit pricier but you'd have some lovely reliable, maintainable wheels.0 -
Apologies to the beardies, but cosmetic factors are a consideration!
Decision made. I'll go for a set.0 -
How about Easton Orion II, I have a set seem quite light and fast, designed for heavy people like myself (14 -15 stone) I also have a set of the cheaper Easton Vista SLs not designed for heavy people, which I notice flex on corners (brake pads rubbed) on the Orions they don't.
If its just day to day riding and not speed etc, get some built up with the Open Pro rims and 32 spokes etc.0 -
If R1's are too expensive then look at Racing 3's.
All the reviewes in here suggest they are good for heavier riders. Im 15 stone ish aswell and so far they are as good as the reviews have wroted.0 -
Campag, and therefore Fulcrum too, are bombproof. I've got them on two of mt bikes and never needed to true them0
