Finaly got permision from the wife to get a new bike. I've got £2000 to spend I have been looking at a Beone Team edition, but have just seen Wiggle are doing the Felt F3 along with a bike box for the same price. Now I can't decide which one. Can anyone help me make up my mind.

    Yup, buy a Cannondale.

  • Seen as your spending £2000 maybe if you ask your wife nicely she will let you have tomorrow afternoon to go to a few bike shops and sit on a few?

That would be pushing my look to far.

Got to ask yourself......do I need a bike box?

Anyway, very shortly the "steel is real" brigade will be along to tell you that you can't beat steel, its been around since the 1st world war, it's not that heavy, blah, blah, blah.....

Don't listen to them. Go get the Cannondale.

I'm going to Italy in June so a bike box will come in handy.

I've looked at the Cannondale Synapse for around the same price. It's got full Ultegra groupset rather than a mix of Ultergra and Durace, But the wheel set is better. Do you know what the frame made from?

Cannondale synapse comes in either alu or carbon. But at your price range it'd be the carbon one. Also maybe the super six is within your price range.

But hey, I like Cannondales (I've got a six 13) but there's a huge choice of other manufacturers out there. If you're looking at Wiggle the Focus gets good reviews too.

Decide what you're going to use the bike for: fast riding; racing; sportives, fun or whatever. Then take ages to decide cos it's fun shopping about and that way you get to weigh up all the options.

I'm never too sure whether going out with a set price in mind is necessarily the right way. At 2 grand you will overlook some lovely bike that will do everything you want and more leaving you with say, £500 to spend on decent kit and accessories. That's the way I would approach a prospective purchase, I think.

If your thinking about steel have a look at Robin Mather. His frames are just beautiful.

IF in right size can pick up a Giant TCR C1 850 quid off at 1500 gbp! Use 250 quid for a prezzie for your kind missus, 250 quid for fun AND have lots of brownie points in hand!

Epic Cycles do a Orbea Orca build for 2k, i just got mine delivered yesterday, 105 groupset with shimano rs500 wheels, i upgraded mine to reynolds solitude for another £200 odd though, looks stunning in my opinion, but then i would say that, can't really comment on it yet though as it ain't stopped raining since it arrived

On looks alone I vote for the Orbea! How pretty is that?

  • The best looking bikes for my money were the Orbea Orca and the Wiler Izoard. I settled on the Izoard with Centaur and Racing 3s rather than the Orca with 105 and average wheels. Looks are subjective though and to some not an important criteria on which to choose a bike. The Orca frame is £3-£400 more than the Izoard and lighter.

+1 for the Orca - well made bikes when you see em up close
The new model has just come out over here (dont worry Nodman, only small cosmetic changes) so you may well be able to score a deal on that model if you can wait a wee bit
