I'll be at my local store, logistics permitting.
I got a nice pair of Lidl gloves, that look very similar to the Aldi ones, and promptly lost them from an unzipped pocket 2 days later. Peeved? Not really... only cost the same as a pint.
Gilet looks good, as do some cheap shorts :-)0 -
Why do people get so excited about Aldi cycling gear/ Why do you think the shorts are £4.99? It's cos they're shite that's why.0
-
Yes the short are a little thin ,but then some of the top brand stuff at around £100 cause of the label  .Well a fool and there money are soon parted . As was I, Italian top end £55 as I remember ,stiching fell apart.Less than two years wear :x :bagpuss0

Wow, learn something new each day. We have Aldi here in the states and I thought
they were only a food store, and maybe they are here, but I never thought cycling.

Bought one of their gilets last year. Have only worn it a few times but the zip on the pocket broke last sunday, admittedly I did have quite a lot in the pocket. Not really sure about the quality as the stitching is beginning to go on one of the seams. It did only cost 6 quid though.I have pain!0

Bought some of the cycling stuff last year which has done well, and have had their running stuff for a few years now. No problem with any of the clothes really, except the same as you.... zips. They haven't broken, they've just become loose, which is a bit annoying when running with the leggings on and the zip at the back of my ankle rides up causing the bottoms to flap about.
Saying that you could buy a couple of pairs each year, wear them out and it would still cost a lot less than one "quality" item.0 -
Just got back from Aldi in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent....
Got myself some coolmax underwear, some fingerless cycling gloves and the sports glasses with 3 colour lenses all for £10....
Loads of stuff in there still, but loads of people buying too so might not last long.
Could have spent loads more but since I don't even have my bike yet, thought better of it....0 -
I just got back from Aldi's. Lucky for me the shop was totally dead since it's kinda of out the way at the beach rathan that in a busy spot.
I picked up a couple of gillets and some gloves. I wanted a jacket too, but they didn't have my size
I'm still chuffed though0 -
Got a couple of jackets and matching gloves. Twenty odd quid.

The computer, whilst looks good, has a fault.
You can't enter a wheel size smaller than 1900 - you have two sizes, one for metric and one for imperial.
It basically restricts you to wheels larger than 24", but in KM's only. The quoted sizes for all wheels in Miles are less than 1900, so you can't calibrate it.
Got one for my commuter, and one for my son - he would have loved it, but it can't be set to 20" wheel, despite wht the instructions say.0 -
bloody hell. thought i was being cunning getting there at 9am, there was already a scrum with one guy piling gear into his trolley hehe! i swooped and got a black gilet, black shirt, black gloves, 2 pairs of cycling underwear and some bib shorts and normal shorts. Not to mention a tool bag. all for the princely sum of £39. Which to be fair all i use it for is commuting and recreational riding so im CHUFFED
and the cherry on the top? I FOUND A TENNER ON THE FLOOR!!!! ( yes i did look around to see if anyone had dropped it, but aisle was empty, waited with it for a while no one came back to claim it so i pocketed it :-)
was a good day!0 -
I really like my gillets, but I have noticed that the zips seem to be a little fragile......0

I got a few clothes, the hand pump (goes up to 8 bar) and the Tool bag, it's a saddle bag with a multitool, some spanners, tyre levers and some patches... for £5.0 -

Did you go to the Aldi in Sealand Road? Apparantly there was loads of clothes left well into the day.0 -
Well my wife now want's the mits for her body pump - I got 3 pairs for commuting and the track pump for the kid's bikes and footballs and stuff (still have my 20 year old Steel Silca pump - presta only).
The computer looks good, far too many functions, but this error is bad...good job I fiddled with it before trying to fit it...god how hissed would you be if you had neatly wired it all up..... :shock:0 -
Like the fact that the socks are left and right footed.
Wanted a set of overshoes but there were none in my size. Might try a different store tomorrow. Never had a real problem with the quality.
Can we fix it?
Yes we can!0 -
Hi I've noticed this on the computer too. I'm going to phone the help line. but if they can't help me, I have a back up plan. Not ideal I know.
I bought this for our baby's pram/buggy. It has tiny (compared to a bike) 20cm diameter wheels. So I'm going to set the computer up for a wheel with 80cm diameter wheels (about 32") and then divide evrything by 4 (speed distance etc).
this probably wouldn't work on a bike as you'd like to access your information more often. But this is just a cheap gimmick to see how far we'[ve pushed the pram when we've finished with it. It has the added advantage of displaying calories/fatburn (probably not very accurate in this case) and temperature.
Sorry it's not much help to anyone else - although Fossyant, it might be good for your son's mental arithmetic.
I am of course as always open to any better ideas.0 -
V. Happy with my purchases. I was there at 9:10, and the store opened at 9 :-)
I was rather late too work, as I then had a 55min cycle and needed to grab a shower! Oops.
Gloves are pretty good, used last night. Gillet was used last night, zip on the rear pocket got stuck on the reflective material next to it... will be more careful in the future.
Got lots of various bits. Wishing I'd spent a bit more money and got some of the same bits in different colours, as the fit is pretty good on me! Will be trying out the glasses next week when I get my contacts, but they seemed to have a very nice close fit (if feeling a bit cheap).
Didn't rate the jackets tho. Although the one I have from Lidl is a bit too big, it does have vents in the back, a hood, and a mesh lining.
I look forward to looking like a "lycra brigade" cyclist now... just need to invest in some nice lycra trousers for the winter... maybe Aldi will come to the rescue in October :-P0
