Riding a giant SCR 4.0 primarily for commuting, about 2000 miles a year.

Currently running on 622-14 rims with 700-26 tyres. Firstly I'm fed up with punctures & I'm seriously considering the new(?) Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

I'm not after great speed, so rolling resistance isn't a big issue.

Comfort is more of an issue. What is the widest tyre I should consider on these rims. Looking at the frame of the bike there appears to be plenty room for a wider tyre but what will the rims take?

Thanks

Opted for Vittoria Radonneurs. 700x32's £11 each

Extra width for comfort & reasonable puncture resistance. Didn't want to spend £22 per tyre (Marathon Plus) only to find out 32 was going to be too wide for the frame. Less of a hit if the Radonneurs didn't work out.

Anyway, they're on now & day 1 they've got me into the office fine. Notice the difference in comfort straight away.

Previous rubber was OEM supplied Kenda Kontender & after 8 months the rear feels extremely flimsy. Also I noted no mention of puncture resistance for them on a shop website.

Hopefully that's all I'll have to say on it, but if I suffer any downsides I'll blog it here.

An excellent choice IMO. I've been running 'Randonneur's for a while and never had a problem. Their pun***re resistance is phenomenal; I've only had one pun***re and that was when the rear tyre was worn through to the reddish inner layer. Just check for any flints / glass etc from time to time and you should have trouble free riding.
