Do you guys wear underwear under your padded shorts?
I commute about 100 miles a week and do about 50 miles every other weekend but I’m getting a bit chapped and sore between and above the legs, and wondered if it could be my boxers as I wear them underneath my padded shorts, and then some normal shorts/trousers (depending on the weather) on top of that.
Anyone have any advice?
Anyone recommend some decent shorts that hold in everything quite well?
Sorry if the question seems rude/crude – it wasn’t my intention.
Thanks for any advice.

NOTHING!
Anything else is just wrong :P - a decent pair of shorts with a chamois pad worn next to the skin - you can use chamois cream or Sudocrem smothered on the pad to help prevent chafing, but it sounds to me like you are getting your knickers in a twist gent0 -

mtb baggies (space for maps and things like keys and what not) with padded shorts under seems to work fine for me, be that grinding up a rocky path or whizzing along the lanes.0

Yep, I don't wear anything under my shorts....it feels a little wierd at first (almost like i'm going cycling in my underwear lol) but you get used to it, and it feels a lot better.0

No, no, no... You might aswell rub your crown jewels with some sandpaper, it's gives a similar affect to wearing underwear.....0 -
Thanks guys, no more wearing of underwear for me then. . . . Do you do the same thing with bibs?
I've got to order a few more pairs of padded shorts to keep me going - any recommendations on ones that hold everything quite well?0 -
Strangely enough I do wear underwear. To be blunt about it I have a sore area on my left nut. Yes, I've had the full battery of tests and it appears not to be anything serious. Try telling that to your left nut. Anyway, I have found that a pair of shorts(briefs, not boxers)
offer much more support to said left nut than cycling shorts alone. It keeps it from bouncing around as much, which is "good", "very good". I found some lycra - polypro
briefs and have been using them on a daily basis, when riding, for 4 or 5 years now.
No problems to speak of. Well, maybe a little extra butt cream in some areas, but I'm still out there. And that's my strange tale.

yikes, you must sweat more than Mr Sweatski of Sweatsville.
You need to let your gonads breeeeeaath.
NB. not you Dennis, RC21.0 -

Not really, it's not like they are made of heavy material. Pretty light stuff. Wish I didn't
need them but the previously mentioned bouncing can be hard to live with and uncomfortable. These briefs solve the problem that medical science can't. Although
one doctor did ask what I did for excersize. When I told him cycling his quote was
"that won't help". Oh well at least it hasn't gotten worse over the years. Is all this
TMI???

I am a bit of a heavy weight (17.5st) and use a pair of cycling briefs (padded) with the cham next to my skin, but I wear these under my bib which is also padded. It just makes it more comfortable for me - hope you don't think of me as being to much of a woos.0

Every time a cyclist wears undies under chamois, God kills a kitten.0

hi,
with no underwear, i feel like flying naked in the air ! it won't itch or feel anything if my underwear is thin. i might be the only guy doing this, but my riding is alright with it.0 -

No problem. At my advanced age I rarely understand much of anything. I even fell for
the April fools thing about the carbon fiber frame tape. Getting old is not for sissy's.
Dennis Noward
know what you mean, just gone past a big milestone myself (100), like the 'getting old is not for sissy's' quote.
NB. only joking about the 100 !!.
(is that a sign of old age, keeping doing NB's)0 -

What's VPL?
Anyway - Just thought i'd give an update after a week of not wearing anything underneath and; It's great - a lot better than before! I just need to buy some more shorts as I don't have enough pairs to cover the week.
Thanks again for all the advice and help

I always wear a pair of M&S lycra boxers under my shorts. They actually help prevent any chafing as they are seamless, and stops my short getting too stinky (too much energy drink gives me bad wind, and follow through is an always present hazard  ).0

Not in summer!! winter maybe for a bit of wind protaction 8)
