Having saved up and bought my new carbon fibre wonder bike and about to take it to the Pyrenees I have realised I should insure it, can anyone recomend an insurance company?

I used cycle guard last year and had to unfortunately make use of them after a crash. they were very good and would use them again.

How much are people paying on insurance? I got a quote when I first built up my new bike and it was like £300, I've recently put new wheels on and probably doubled what its worth. £300 is almost what I pay for car insurance which seems stupid, yet I couldn't afford to replace the bike its a gamble really.

The reason I asked it that I was qouted £154 for my 2K bike for theft and damage yet
for a 10k sports car fully comp I have just had my renewel of £360!

yeah similar figures as Barney, think my renewal was around £160 for £2500 worth of bike.

We have been offered a deal through Cycling Ireland this year for 125 euro which will cover us for up to 750euro on one bike or 10,000euro for multiple bikes.

when taking racing into consideration the risks are pretty high i guess. both the above covered me for racing as well as casual cycling.

    Seconded.

The cover also includes £50k worth of legal fees and £2,000,000 for personal liability just in case you ever get sued for causing an accident!

Thirded, just renewed with M&S and 3 >£4k bikes only saw a price of £164 home or abroad. Whole household policy came in £300 cheaper than previous for better cover.

I've always used E&L. Cheapest from the companies I asked. Seemed to be about half of that company that had a banana skin outside their office. I forget what they're called. I remember they had a presence at my university. Blue sign. You know the ones.
    You, sir, are a c*nt

With the M&S premium , are you going for standard or premium cover?

Sorry, I'm pretty sure that it doesn't. I phoned M&S to see what the policy covered and it was everything that I needed, but I don't race. I specifically asked if it covered riding in a training group and was told that it did "as long as you are not racing". Not sure what happens if there is a crash in the sprint-for-the-sign though...

  • I have just bought a data tag kit for my meta 55. I was intending insuring it and was wondering if anyone knew what companies give a discount for bike insurance with data tag

    Cheers

I went for the Premium on both very little increase over the standard and the buildings included emergency drain and having a rather unfortunate drain blockage on xmas day 07 seemed sensible !

I don't race so the cover is spot on I don't know if there is an excess payable to increase the cover ?
