W,, I was out on a 6 hr ride yesterday and although I put cream on, I have a stripy tan on my head and burnt arms. I have started riding for longer on average this year and am wondering, how do we keep ourselves from getting burnt?

Sweat proof, good quality, high factor sun cream is a worthy investment.

I'd recommend P20 by Riemanns. You put it on an hour before you go out and you don't need to reapply for the rest of the day. That's the big problem with cycling and sports in general, is having to reapply due to the sweat washing the cream off. Even the waterproof ones have to be repplied every few hours.

Another vote for P20. Then all you have to worry about is your daft cyclists tan..

  • Just watch p20 on your clothes. It stains if it isn't dry. i use p20 and another cream on top and haven't burned my white paddy type 1 skin yet despite 14 hours out in hot climates.

  • I've found P20 good at stopping sunburn but I still feel dried out at the end of the day, unlike with 'normal' stuff. And it does stain clothes - especially light colour stuff (fairly obvious that bit I guess). But at least it doesn't run into your eyes once you start sweating.

Buffs are the thing for the follicularly challenged!

Otherwise use a high factor baby suntan oil.
