Bike races often take part in agricultural areas, it's common for riders to win such prizes. I remember other pros have won calves and cows. But usually the prize is kindly donated on to someone else. On a visit to Belgium, I remember the winner of a kermesse collected his weight in chicory.

I think it's a tradition thing too for races that have a long history. I suppose a few years ago a pig etc..... would be more useful than money.

The combativity prize in the Tour used to be the riders weight in cheese - then they auctioned this off and gave the money to charity. It is a nice tradition to have something different for a prize, I think

The Tour KOM also used to get his weight in the KOM sponsor's product. This was started when Poulain Chocolate were the sponsor - mmmmm....

I know they were still doing it when Herrera won KOM and he won his weight in Cafe de Colombia, though not sure if they still do it now - how do you win your weight in Champion Supermarkets?!
I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed
