Charge Spoon saddles - in stock anywhere?
Pretty much as per the title... Does anyone know where I can order a Charge Spoon Cro-Mo saddle from and actually expect it to be delivered in a matter of days rather than weeks/months?
Wiggle are only doing pre-orders from what I can see. Ideally I'd like the black or grey version.

And how would you rate it gkerr? Comfy for ya or would you say it's no better than any other you've had?0 -
to be honest....
I bought it for the colour - as I said, I have a brown langster and i now have the matching brown charge bar-tape.
I mean - it's OK - it's comfy for shorter rides (sub 1-2hrs) after that it's not so great.
It has more padding than I like - I like my design-is-better-than-padding toupe on my other bikes. when I tried the toupe I knew I liked it and it holds up for me after many hours in the saddle - that said, the toupe is a £70 saddle - the charge is a £20 saddle - you (as with most things) get what you pay for.
Interestingly - it is EXACTLY the same model saddle as the one it replaced on the langster - the 143 comp - they are both made by Velo and clearly the same shell underneath the covers.
I wouldn't buy the Ti railed one at that price - but the std model is a well priced at £200 -
Hmmm... I think I might go on a little saddle mission and buy a Flite, Bel Air and Toupe (as well as pre-ordering the Spoon) to try to find one that suits me once and for all. The Bontrager thing I'm using at the moment is really hurting me.0

I bet there would be loads of people up for a big regional forum saddle testing/swap event!0

With you there Graham G. I have just purchased a Concor Light after considering the Spoon and SM Regal saddles.
Anybody want a Specialized Alias 143?0 -

I think, and have always thought, that a saddle trying service would do well. Heck we could all do something if we really wanted to you know .......0

Kind of but only for Selle Italia and only in certain locations of the UK:

yes I remember them doing this, and still doing it I gather. All fine if you like Selle Italia saddles .......0
-
Had a quick look at that and the one place listed in London only has a couple of the really expensive Selle saddles to try. I think your choices were £165 or £320, both of which are a little rich for me.0

So far there's grey left here : http://www.dnacycles.co.uk
For anyone reading the major bulk of the next shipment is making it's way to Wiggle, so there will only be a small amount going to other retailers0 -

Have brown and black in stock.
(edit : from there site it might be they have stool and spoon mixed up ).
Nice one Jamey, I've phone god knows how many shops now looking for a white one!0 -

Be interested to see what you guys think of the Spoon. I was going to have a punt but decided against it, mainly because I have never heard of Charge and was unsure of what the quality is like. Although for £20 you cannot go too far wrong.
Purchased a Concor Light instead. Thinking now I could have saved myself £15 and gone for the Spoon but then again, they seem to be as rare as hens teeth!0 -
Will let you know Sarge.
I'm still going to try out a load of different saddles though. I figure it's worth it as an investment for future cycling comfort. I'll be trying to pick up most models cheaply (second-hand) from eBay though. No point buying brand new ones just for testing.0 -
Yep, I am kind of doing the same. If you want to try out a Specialized Alias 143 saddle for £20 let me know...0
-
I think I sent you a message about that earlier today, actually. Will let you know after I've tried the Spoon.0

The Spoon arrived yesterday. Gonna try it out on the commute home tonight. Didn't have the balls to try it on the journey into work just in case it was horrible.0
-
Gutted have ended up going for a brown saddle as that's all I can find
If anyone wants a swap a new brown one for a white/black or possibly a grey please get in touch!0 -
Well I just rode home from work on the Spoon and christ it was painful.
I know the first time on a new saddle isn't going to be great, and also this is the first 'proper' saddle I've ever tried. My first saddle was a proper fatboy thing - very wide with loads of gel padding and springs - and my recent saddle (before trying the Spoon tonight) was a Bontrager with a wide pressure relief channel down the middle and it's slightly wider than the Spoon with reasonable padding.
So I guess I should try a few more journeys on it but I'm beginning to wonder if a big guy like me simply isn't deigned to be perched on such a small saddle.
I'm still very keen to try a Selle Max Flite Gel Flow and a Specialized Toupe as both of those do actually *look* more comfy than the Spoon so I'm holding out some hope.0 -
You will be trying a lot of saddles before you find one which suits you. Also, and this is a big also, any saddle gel or just any amount of padding, will need to be worn in. So trying a saddle for the first time will be a different feeling to the same saddle six months down the line.
So when you see a good rating for a certain saddle, any saddle, in Cycling Plus or anywhere else, they're going by when it's new and not used.
I have bought and tried different saddles which to me looked comfortable but in reality really were not, the Selle Italia SLR for one.
But it's good what you're doing, and i look forward to seeing your reviews in future.0 -
Thanks giant.
Even though a saddle feels different after time, do you think it's possible to "just know" whether it's going to be worth investing that time from a few rides?
(That question was to everyone really, not just giant)0 -
Just went out for the second time on the spoon - an hour of hill 'training' (I use that word very loosely, although I'm proud to say I didn't have to get off and push once, at the very least).
It definitely felt nicer than yesterday but still nowhere near good enough for more than an hour yet. Right at the beginning of the ride I adjusted the nose down a bit (previously it had been very slightly upward, so after today's adjustment it's pretty much flat) and instantly noticed it felt better but then, on the uphill sections, when I was leaning further forward, the saddle actually seemed to feel even more comfortable.
So I'm not sure whether to angle the nose back up again or whether it was simply because going uphill means more pushing with the legs, which in turn means you raise up more and have less body weight pressing down on the saddle.
Fun fun fun.0 -
I fixed my new Concor Light on yesterday. Did ten miles and its now on ebay! It really hurt, especially around my bits. Having rode the Alias for over a year now, I really appreciate the hole mid saddle as it plays a massive part in taking pressure away from your wedding tackle.
I think I am going to stick to the Alias for the time being and maybe look at the Spoon as well as the Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow.
Be interested to hear how all you Spoonies get on.0
