Worth a try. Though if back problems are your reason, it could be the riding position too.
Don't skimp on a sus post, the cheap ones are heavy and nasty, with a top out clunk. The USE SX is the one I would get.0 -
i was considering getting one for a little extra comfort over the rough stuff,im going to check out your recommendation as i haven't seen any decent looking posts, they all look a bit cheap thanks for the super fast replypeople are like pens if they don't work shake em0

My mate had one for a while ,he ran a rear mud guard as he was getting problems with it getting clogged with mud,he got rid of it in the end to save weight and just bought a comfier saddle .0

I had an older USE one on my last hardtail (can't remember the model but it cost over £ 70 7 years ago). Not sure it was really worth the money. I think it took some of the impact away from the bigger hits but not so much that I really thought wow thats plush. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
I put a Post Modern Bracer on my bike last year, and whilst it's definitely no substitute for rear suspension it does take some of the buzz out of rutted fields and significantly reduces the kick from bigger bumps.
Was it worth £50? If you're in the market for a new seat-post anyhow, then definitely, if not then seriously consider what else you could get for the money (shorts/liner, saddle, going-tubeless) which will give a comfier ride.0 -

Merlin are knocking out Shimano LX cranksets for £45 if you're after a bargain!
Cyclestore UK are doing the Bracer for £43. Don't forget you'll need shims too though.0 -
I have back problems and have a USE XCR which I've been using for many years and can highly recommend. Stick with the standard medium yellow spring / elastomer combo unless you're really heavy, over 14st, and adjust the preload to take out all the trail rumble. You'll still have to take your weight off your butt on the bigger hits.Orange Clockwork 2007

Just bought 2008 P7 frame (Orange fan? Me!)

thanks guys you lot seem well informed and know what your on about,im deffo going for either the USE xc or the bracer as both seem to have decent reviews.i think i can get away with the crank for the time being as its just some play in the crank arm.im 12.5 stone so i guess i would be OK with either seat post.people are like pens if they don't work shake em0
