Front mech shifting problem

I'm running a 9 sp compact set up with an 'unbranded' shimano front mech and recently ( 2 months ago) changed the all the cables.

Everything was fine to start - I actually surprised myself I managed to do it - but recently I've been unable to shift into the the smaller chainring on the road, but when I get back home, hanging up, it works fine !!

Any ideas ?

( I see there's a similar thread about shifting, but that's the rear mech. )

Try cleaning the front mech - a good squirt of WD40, particularly over the pivot points and perhaps even into the lever ratchet - I did a friends bike the other day which was displaying similar symptoms. Make sure the outer cable isn't kinked - particularly by the downtube cable stop - replace if it is, Also check for muck under the BB and check the cable isn't frayed. Loosen the cable clamp and try and clean/lube the inner with chain lube, particularly at the point where it exits the outer by sliding the outer sleeve back and forth.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
