I love riding my bike virtually every day and gain peverse delight from training hard ( hard enough to see stars / retch etc.) and riding long. However, I just don't seem to enjoy races - something to do with all the unnecessary posturing and frankly the danger of people cutting you up / causing crashes and near misses for the sake a few extra places and the fact that you just go round and round a bit of (often dull) countryside for a couple of hours.

Anyone else feel like this and what's the solution?

Sportives - most dont cover the same ground twice and there is less hassle of the race. You can hit the hills as fast as you want and go for your own personal time.
