Seat post shims

My new bike (Focus Cayo) takes a 31.6mm diameter seatpost. Are there any significant disadvantages to using a shim to get this down to 27.2mm? (Which I have on all my other bikes.) Planning on changing the seatpost for one with less layback.

No problem with using good quality shims. USE do good ones.

I've got a new, unused 31.6 Thomson Elite seatpost with zero layback for sale if you were interested £40 plus a bit for Post
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.

Thanks for that Pete. May be interested in the seatpost; still trying to decide whether the frame actually fits. I'm feeling a bit stretched.

Idea with 27.2 would just to go with the same size as my existing tourer and commuter, to promote interchangability.

My bike came with a thin plastic shim which fits precisely and seamlessly into the end of seat tube. I think it actually prevents damage to the carbon seat post and stops it slipping - the plastic has more grip and is softer than the surface of the seat tube itself would be.
