Rear mech cage lengths

Hi

Does anyone know if i can replace a sram x9 long cage rear mech with a medium cage version and what if any difference this will make.

    It's a 11-32 9 speed cassette

    But always check what "RANGE" the mech has.

    If the bike is a full suspension frame make sure that the mech can compensate for any "chain grow" through the complete suspension movement.
