Hey guys just got a pair of new Sidi's. Now when i have the strapped up firmly i get a bad aching pain around and just behind the ball of my little toe and down the out side arch of my foot.

Any recommendations? Thought i may need arch support but this isn't the case.

It could be - experiment with how tight you have your shoes - I've used Sidi for years, then last year bought some Specialized Pro Carbons - got pain in my inner arch and ball of foot first - then found if the lower straps were just comfortable (not tight) but the top ratchet strap was tight, I was fine.

Also takes a little while to get used to new shoes. You could also try inserts !

Don't understand, since my Energies are the most comfortable things i have ever had on my feet. Maybe you needed the Mega series (wider fittings) instead of the standard ones?

yeah maybe. Trouble is cycling shoes aint cheap nowadays are they so gotta run with em for now and see if they get better when broken in....

You're right fossyant it does ease if i have them loose...
  • I used to get a similar foot pain in my right foot (and sometimes an aching knee). After messing around with cleat position, I thought it was the shoes and I love Sidi on my MTB so decided to get some Sidi Genius.

That still didn't cure the problem, so tried Specialised shoe sole inserts - that just made my knees hurt more and felt just weird. In the end I had to change to a different pedal system (Crank Bros Quattro from Look Keo). Never looked back. Don't know why it worked, but again I like the float of Egg Beaters on my MTB. A bonus was you can walk in Quattro cleats without the risk of ruining them.

Without being alarmist it could be a whole host of things..i had some pain in my smaller toes...i now have a specialized footbed in the right shoe for arch support and the insole that came with the shimano shoes in the left one. If your hamstrings are tighter in one leg than another and likeiwse your achilles...with new shoes it could be a bit of plantar fasciitis. Plenty of good stretches for this available on net. Good luck anyway..i know what a bugger foot pain can be.

Actually that'd make sense. The crankbros cleats are available in two bolt or three bolt, and I'm running two bolt (MTB style) since the Genius shoes can do both and there is more vertical adjustment using this fixing method.

Have used BG for four years. Persuaded to try SIDI Dominator 5's. After a few hundred miles I started to develop severe pain between second and third meta tarsels on top and bottom. I mean severe. While I ought to have taken a day off, I opted to try the BGs again. Though it hurt at first, it seemed to stabilize after 15 minutes and appears far better.

The SIDI's are softer less structured shoe, moulding to the foot beautiful. But I think for me at least it causes a 'wraparound' effect when using SPDs, leaving the foot without stability on the rotation.

For now at least, back to BGs. Sad because the SIDIs are so beautiful (and costly) just sitting there.

I got EXACTLY that for the first time ever yesterday using my brand new Sidis. A first time in Sidis, and I'm assuming that my cleat is in the wrong place. Speedplay Pedals. Gonna mess around a bit to see what changing the cleat position will do - got a long ride on Sunday so fingers crossed. Yesterday I felt my toes were crossed.

And I have knee pain... and both on the right side only... curiouser and curiouser.
You just have to ride like you never have to breathe again.
