Recommendations for chain cleaner/lube!

I've just finished a bottle of 'Rock 'n' Roll' and found it to be ok...but wasn't wowed. I'm looking for recommendations for a chain cleaner/lube.
Obviously, the weather is pretty awful at present, so it does mean that it's a thorough clean after every ride, which means trying to avoid the dreaded rusty chain scenario. I do have Finish Line wet lube, which is pretty good for this weather, but I'm trying to find something that will give the chain a good clean, and lube at the same time preferably.
When applying chain lube etc, are you also supposed to apply the lube onto the cassette too? I've had a couple of conflicting pieces of advice about this. Some say just lube the chain and run through the gears, which will then in turn apply the lube where needed. Others have stated that you must also lube the cogs as well as the chain.

Bumping this as im doing a search for the same question.
Which chain cleaner/bath do you guys recomend?
I wanna keep my chain mint from the start and after todays 17mile hack, its pretty gritty.0 -
Lube just the chain, carefully, with no excess.
Use a good degreaser, rinse, dry, then re lube. Finishline is good.
For more info, try Sheldon Brown's article on this subject.0 -
Use methylated spirit.
Or, if you already have some for cleaning the rest of the bike, some neat Fenwicks.0 -
I use the Park Tool Chain gang chain cleaner tool
Brings it up mint. Then leave to dry then I oil the chain and a little on the cassette
and run through the gears.
This tool costs around £ 25-30.00p but works.0 -
a drop of lube on each chain link roller works for me.0

Again, thanks for all the help...you guys are stars!0

What chain bath would you guys go for?
Is the Park one the best?
Or are there better out there?
Does anyone use the Finish Line bath/cleaner?
That one intrests me most as it also has a mgnet mounted in the bottom to collect any iron fillings.0 -
I wouldnt even bother - elbow grease and a good brush!0

edinburgh cycles do a good own brand chain cleaner / bath for £10 that is spot on, as for lube I have gotton on well with purple extreme lube, good stuff and lasts a while, I don't think you will find many lubes that will clean first however, most are best applied to a clean and dry chain so get scrubbing first or you will just end up with a well lubed gunky mess.0

Is that the opinion then, just use a brush and forget the bath idea?0

I have the finish line chain cleaner. It's a bit of a faff to use but it does bring the chain up sparkling.0
