I'm thinking of getting an Edge 305 but would also like to use it for hill walking. Does anyone know if it provides UK OS grid references as well as location by latitude and longitude. I've downloaded the instructions but they don't mention this.

Thanks in anticipation.

The 305 is NOT a GPS system. It is a training aid with GPS.

It will not deal with OS grid references, and uses a different series of file formats that introduces incompatibility issues with most of the main mapping software programmes. It is manageable, but only with the use of 3rd party conversion programmes.

Additionally there are issues with "security" as there are no clips, lanyards or attachmentsystems for a rucksack or clothing.

I use a 305 on the bike for commutig / training, but use an Etrex when touring or walking.

The 305 is virtually useless as a walking aid.

You can get lang and lat out of it, but you have to add a mark, and view the details which is pretty much useless...

Like Cunobelin, i would say its not very handy as a walking aid, you can though, plot a route and load it as a course which you then navigate (really want a arm starp or a watch version), but when i say navigate its more, oh you can see a line, or a compass that tells you which way to go, but then thats only really any use if your on roads or paths, as if you stray to far off, course lost....

Only good thing really, you can see where you went after, oh and were you got lost :)
